What I would consider a new media would be interpersonal
communication without the content shock of the current media venues. Despite
the fact that Intel ceased its development of their “Vaunt smart glasses”, it would
still be the perfect medium for this kind of communication. Vaunt were made to
look like a regular pair of glasses that used a “low-power laser to beam a
low-resolution image into your peripheral vision, directly onto your retina”. Similar
to Google glass but without the obtrusive hardware, these glasses had the added
benefit of others around you not being able to see what you see. It would have
still needed the internet for some things, but it could have allowed people
using something like “Firechat” that can work via airdrop instead. It also had promise of developing more VR features so that you could actually walk with someone not near you and "see" them beside you. That stated,
a new type of chat that only allows invited users without ads, or marketing or
the internet which would be able to be accessed without those around you even
knowing you are looking at it would be the next wave of new media for those
that have run out of patience with corporations infiltrating and prostituting
users' information every second.
