Blog vs Wiki
Blogs are more controlled places where individuals are able
to post their own work in chronological order and project information to
readers. Wikis allow for collaborative efforts by members of an assigned group
to continuously update, edit and interact in relative real time. Since Wiki’s
allow this real time collaboration, it allows users to share ideas in a timely
manner and thus affect the subject without delay. However, as the New York Times article by Noam Cohen, makes clear, this also has the down side of misuse (Cohen 2009). Blogs on the other hand allow
people to converge on the author’s post through comments in an almost conversation-like
manner. This also has a dangerous side as another New York TImes article by Michael Wilson examines how they can be used by law enforcement to gather information (Wilson 2008). It would be interesting to see the administrative office’s of Baruch
use a Wiki to keep students apprised of relevant information such as tuition
due dates.
I agree that both Blogs and Wikis can have a dark side if they are misused. That's definitely an important point you made.
